ABOUT KAITLYN FLIS - ARTIST, ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGIST, PMP

Royalty of the art studio, Princess 👑 🐈_edited.jpg

I moved to Melville, Saskatchewan in the summer of 2022, and grew up in Regina but have always said that my cabin is my favourite place to be.  As you will notice in my portfolio, my subject matter is primarily Saskatchewan scenery, more specifically focusing on the Qu'Appelle Valley and flowers from my garden.  My heart belongs to the valley and I have been told that this comes out in my artwork.

Primarily I have been painting in acrylics on canvas and water skiis while dabbling in other miscellaneous mediums on days when I felt like changing it up a bit.  This could range from pastel to charcoal to wood burning to multi-meadia.  In late 2018, I was introduced to Unison pastels and was hooked.  I had used soft pastels in the past, but didn't realize that by using different brands a person could create even more texture and depth.  I do still paint with acrylics but am doing more and more with soft pastels.  There is something about getting my hands dirty and actually spreading the pigments across the paper that draws me in.  The layering and bright colours are memorizing to me and I want to push the boundaries to see what can be created.  In the summer of 2020, I was selected to be one of the Associate Artists of Unison Colour.  I am beyond excited to see where this opportunity takes me.

In my post secondary education, I pursued architectural technologies. I saw architecture a good way to meld my technical side with my creative side.  Through my work experience, I have found that I enjoy project management related tasks the most and have earned my PMP designation and am currently working as a project manager.

My spare time is split many different ways.  I obviously have a love for painting and creating art.  I was formerly a member of the Prairie Artists Guild in Regina (2015-2022) and am now a member of the Melville Art Club while actively pursuing art as an individual as well.  There is nothing more peaceful for me than painting in my art studio or yard at the lake, while sipping on a glass of wine or cup of tea.  I like to be involved in any sports I can find; currently this includes ice hockey, golf,   long distance running and weightlifting at the gym.  I love to be active, these activities double as my social time and a stress reliever.  When these activities can take place outdoors that is a bonus! Of course, being in Canada makes most of these activities season dependent.  Lastly, I enjoy spending time with my large family, friends, and pets.  I married my best friend in 2017.  He is supportive and helps keep me organized with my crazy schedule.  Together we enjoy quiet time at home, hanging out with our pets, playing and watching sports, and attending many family gatherings.

I hope you enjoy this website and my portfolio.
